    What is Continuously Variable Transmission?

    Last updated 5 years ago

While many of today’s cars have manual or automatic transmissions with fixed gears, a select few can be equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Instead of using gears, CVTs use a belt and pulley to produce an infinite number of gear ratios. With this design, CVTs are able to maximize delivery of power while minimizing the exertion placed on the drivetrain and powertrain. CVTs are also very fuel efficient transmissions, which makes them ideal for drivers that don’t mind giving up traditional gears in exchange for a fuel-efficient, cutting-edge transmission.

To experience a CVT in a new or used Honda, come to Brown’s Arlington Honda for a test drive. Currently the Honda Civic, Accord, and Insight hybrid can be equipped with a CVT. Call us at (703) 522-8808 or visit our website to browse our selection of new and pre-owned Honda vehicles before you visit the dealership.

Ken in the service department (or, as he calls himself on his nameplate, Kenny) is a true... More

3 Compact, Fuel-Sipping Cars from Honda

    Last updated 5 years ago

Hondas are defined by their unique style, exceptional fuel economy, and fun-to-drive personality. A new Honda is great car for you if you want to reduce your carbon footprint and save money on fuel costs. Consider the following three new Hondas if you want your next car to be compact, fuel-efficient, and fun.

    Honda Civic

If you need a dependable, good-looking sedan or coupe, you can’t go wrong with the Honda Civic. The new Civic comes standard with a 1.8-liter 140-horsepower engine that achieves 39 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg in the city with an automatic transmission. But you can opt for the 110-horsepower Honda Civic Hybrid to boost those numbers to 44 mpg on the highway and 44 mpg in the city. All 2013 Honda Civics come standard with a five-inch LCD screen that will show your current fuel economy, text messages, and more!

    Honda Fit

To expand your cargo capacities and passenger space beyond what a Honda Civic can offer, get behind the wheel of the 2013 Honda Fit hatchback. With a five-speed automatic transmission, the 117-horsepower Honda Fit earns 28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Unlike many other compact cars, the Honda Fit can comfortably hold two adults in the back seat. If your priority is cargo, however, you can fold the rear seats forward for access to a total of 57 cubic feet of space.

    Honda CR-Z

The Honda CR-Z is for drivers that can’t decide between top-notch fuel economy and thrilling driving dynamics. In addition to its sport-tuned transmission, driver-selectable driving modes, and 130-horsepower hybrid engine, the Honda CR-Z is officially the first production hybrid with a six-speed manual transmission. For optimal efficiency, opt for the CVT, which helps the Honda CR-Z earn 36 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.
